    September 30, 2019
The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host more than 100 of the best high school musicians from throughout the Northland for the Tri-State Band Festival on Thursday, Oct. 17.
Students will rehearse with guest clinician Ed Kiefer. He served as the director of bands at East Davidson High School in Thomasville, N.C., for 28 years and as director of instrumental music at Pfeiffer University for six years. These experiences have allowed Kiefer to learn what is easy for students and what challenges them musically. His publications have been performed worldwide and featured at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Some of his works are on several state music festival lists and are played regularly at festivals and conventions. Kiefer was inducted into the North Carolina Band Director’s Hall of Fame in 2017. In December, he will be presenting at the prestigious Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago.
The day will conclude with a public concert at 7 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium. Tickets are $5 adults, $3 seniors and free for students.
The Thorpe Langley Auditorium is located in Old Main at 1710 Weeks Ave. For more information, contact the UW-Superior Music Department at (715) 394-8115 or music@uwsuper.edu. Event Link: https://www.uwsuper.edu/calendar/tri-state-band-festival-concert_calendar358790047
