UW-Superior holding free beekeeping workshop
For those interested in becoming a beekeeper, the University of Wisconsin-Superior will hold a free Beekeeping 101 workshop on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon in Swenson Hall Room 1013.
Designed specifically for those with no experience in beekeeping, Dr. Edward Burkett, UW-Superior biology professor and apiary manager, will provide general knowledge that beginning beekeepers need to succeed.
Topics covered will include “Do I really want to raise honey bees?,” honey bee biology, basic equipment, tools, protective gear, cost, purchasing bees and equipment, legal issues, urban beekeeping, installing your first bees, basic hive inspection, colony maintenance, and challenges to bee health. Participants will get to handle and learn to use beekeeping equipment and assemble a beehive.
This free workshop is limited to 60 participants. Registration is available at www.cvent.com/d/gtq5w4. Refreshments will be provided. Swenson Hall is located on the UW-Superior campus at 1610 Weeks Ave.
