The Duluth Airport Authority Completes Fifth Phase of Taxiway A Reconstruction

Duluth, MN – November 12, 2025 – The Duluth Airport Authority is proud to announce the successful completion of Phase 5 of the Taxiway A reconstruction project. A major infrastructure investment to enhance airfield safety and efficiency for airport operations.

This phase represents a $12 million investment in modernizing the airport's critical airfield infrastructure. Construction began in May and concluded at the end of October, staying on schedule despite an active travel season and variable weather conditions.

Phase 5 reconstruction included the installation of new pavement, storm drainage, and upgraded lighting and electrical systems. Crews placed over 32,000 square yards of concrete pavement, which is equivalent to the length of five football fields, and installed more than five miles of new electrical conduit to support improved taxiway lighting and navigational systems.

“These infrastructure improvements are vital to maintaining Duluth International Airport as a safe and efficient facility,” said Tom Werner, Executive Director of the Duluth Airport Authority. “Each phase of this project ensures that we can continue to serve the needs of the growing aviation industry in our region.”

The DAA extends its thanks to our partners on this project, Ulland Brothers, who was the prime contractor, and Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. who provided engineering and design services, as well as many others who contributed to the project’s success. Their dedication and collaboration were instrumental in the completion of this complex airfield project.
