The Superior Douglas County Family YMCA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Stenberg as the new Chief Executive Officer.  Stenberg, who lives in Superior, will begin his new duties on Monday, October 2.  The selection of Chris Stenberg was based on his strong ties to the community and his great passion for the YMCA.   In addition, his business background will be beneficial as the new CEO for the Superior Douglas County Family YMCA.

Mike Holden, Chair of the Board of Directors, stated “The search for a new CEO was a challenging opportunity to find the right individual to lead our local YMCA.  The hiring committee believes that in Chris we have found the perfect fit for the YMCA members, as well as the Superior-Douglas County community. We look forward to continued growth and innovation under Chris’ leadership.” Stenberg will replace Jackie Minor who resigned to move to Eau Claire with her husband David Minor.

Stenberg has been a volunteer member of the Superior Douglas County Family YMCA Board of Directors since 2010.  As a part that role, he served as the YMCA Board Chair and as member of the executive and finance committees.  In addition to his volunteer work, Stenberg was most recently employed by the Superior Amateur Hockey Association as the executive director for three years.  Prior to that, Stenberg owned and operated Play it Again Sports for 12 years.  Chris graduated with honors from UW-Superior with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a minor in Cultural Studies.

In response to his selection, Stenberg said, “It is such an honor and privilege to have this opportunity to serve the Y.  I feel very fortunate continuing the work to improve and enhance our operations.  The YMCA has wonderful services.  I cannot think of a more rewarding occupation and that's what drew me to the YMCA. We need to make sure this community knows all that we have to offer.”
