Name: Winter Street Depot Farmers' MarketDate: August 13, 2008Time: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM CDTEvent Description:The Winter Street Depot Farmers' Market is an open air market held every Wednesday afternoon July through October. The market features locally grown produce, eggs, maple syrup, honey, jams and other condiments, baked goods, herbs, plants and garden crafts. Meet the farmers who grow the food. Get tips on preparing seasonal veggies. Something new each week as various fruits and vegetables ripen throughout the season. Held rain or shine. Accessible parking. It’s the first sign of fall in Northern Wisconsin when big red tomatoes start coming to the Farmer’s Markets. There were not many tomatoes but in about two weeks there should be an abundance.
This week should bring string beans, peas, cabbage, broccoli, zucchini, new potatoes, cucumbers and pickles. There will also be freshly made bread and baked goods on Saturday at Barker’s Island.
The winter squash is doing really well and should start coming in September, pumpkins in October, and corn has been late but maybe in about two weeks we will see really fresh locally grown corn at the markets.
There are usually vendors with homemade jams and maple syrup from our local maple trees.
Last Saturday, there were ten vendors at the market and lots of people walking around, just enjoying the spectacular weather.
The markets are Wednesday at the Winter Street Depot, 1615 Winter Street, Superior, from 1 pm to 5 pm and Saturdays at Barker’s Island, Marina Drive, Superior, from 8 am to noon.
