Spring Exhibitions at the DAI - Oulu Glass

Oulu Glass "A Family of Artisans" is one of three featured shows in the Spring Exhibitions at Duluth Art Institute.

Anton (Jim) and Susan Vojacek are a husband and wife team of artisans who, along with their daughter Tonja and grandchildren Stanzia and Riley, create works of art using glass as their primary medium. The team also includes Allen Erickson, a former student.

This exhibition will include collaborative work—a strong tradition in the world of glass artistry both now and in times past. We each have our own heads full of ideas and hands full of tools and talents. Jim blows glass, draws, and dabbles in metal works. Sue draws, paints, does stained and fused glass. Tonja draws, paints, fuses glass, makes fused glass and beaded jewelry and often combines multiple media into collages. Allan draws, does metal construction and blows glass. Stazia and Riley bring emerging talent and youthful inspiration into the mix.

In the past, all of us have assisted the others in one way or another; sharing ideas, talents, tools, materials, and studio space with Oulu Glass being the meeting place. We have been able to do this because we admire each other’s work so much. This is the first time, however, that we decided to meld our heads together, put all of our tools and materials in one pile, and go to work as one.
