    You are invited to attend the 4th annual fundraising event to preserve the SS Meteor Whaleback and the legacy of Captain Alexander McDougall. A Dinner & Silent Auction will be held on board the SS Meteor from 4:30pm-8:00pm. This includes the opportunity to bid on unique itmes, services, recreation and entertainment packages; optional tour into the "Nooks and Crannies" of the SS Meteor (see info below); gourmet buffet prepared by Kirk Batraud of the Boathouse Restaurant; keynote presentation by Cris Kohl, noted Great Lakes Historian, diver and underwater photographer; award presentation, musical entertainment and cash bar.

    Whaleback Ships, Shipbuilding and Shipwrecks Panel Discussion Forum from 1:00-4:00pm. Panel discussion will be held at the Richard I. Bong WWII Heritage Center.

    1:00-1:30pm- Roger Pellett, Marine Engieer, Meteor Advisory Committee-Presenting a visual time line of the SS Meteor, documenting different owners and physical modifications.

    1:30-2:00pm- Jim Sharrow, Facilities Manager for Duluth Seaway Port Authority, Metoer Advisory Committee-Presnting options for the permanent display of the SS Meteor.

    2:00-2:45- Dr. David Few, Emeritus Director of Erie County Historical Society-Presenting The Life and Times of Walter Grashaw & the Sinking of the Colgate.

    2:45-3:30- Dr. Matthew Daley, Associate Professor of Hisotyr, Gravd Valley State University-Presenting a history of McDougall's Riverside shipyard.

    3:30-4:00- Emler Engman, Author of 'In the Belly of a Whale' and founder fo Gales of November-Presenting the story of the Christopher Columbus.

    "Nooks & Crannies" Tours

    These Optional Tours are included with both Dinner and Combination Tickets.

    Engines, Pumps, Boilers and More with Roger Pellett as your guide.                 

    The Meteor's machinery plant is one of the two oldest, intact marine steam power plants on the Great Lakes.

    Structural Modifications wiht Jim Sharrow as your guide.

    The Meteor still has elements of her original patented features (if you know where to look), plus evidence of her numerous refittings prompted by changes in technology, profitability and products.

    A Day in the Life of a Great Lakes Merchant Marine with Fred Cummings as your guide.

    Hear the story of a typical merchant marine's life from an experienced Great Lakes sailor.  A tour of the pilot house will reveal the navigation tools available in the 1960's, toward the end of the Meteor's and Fred's careers on the Inland Sea.
