Name: Hike Into History The St. Croix/Bois Brule Portage Trail
    Date: September 28, 2007
    Event Description:
This historic portage trail may only be 2 miles long, but it certainly will take you much further back in history. The St. Croix/Bois Brule Trail is one of the most historically significant and storied rivers of Wisconsin. From it, early Indians, traders and explorers could travel from Lake Superior to the Mississippi River and on…it literally opened the way for expansion from the Great Lakes to the rest of a growing nation. Join Dave Thorson, a noted hydrologist and forester from the area along with Wisconsin River Alliance staff for this hike back in time, to learn more about the natural, cultural and glacial history of this significant northwoods trail. The trail is mostly flat, with a few hills. There will be a stop at the point where the two river systems meet for a snack break before returning. Trip Duration: 3 hours (4 walking miles). Cost: $10/person includes guided hike and snack. Meet at the St. Croix/Bois Brule Trail trailhead park and boat landing on Highway A at Upper St. Croix Lake, Solon Springs. Note: Time is not currently available.
