Fairlawn Preservation Event
Name: Fairlawn Preservation EventDate: June 14, 2012Time: 7:00 PM - 7:00 PM CDTEvent Description:Join Superior Public Museums Thursday, June 14, 7:00 p.m. at Fairlawn Mansion for a special 'Fairlawn Preservation' event! We are pleased invite you to meet our visiting preservation consultants, Anthony Kartsonas and Neal Vogel. All proceeds from this evening will go towards restoration efforts. The cost is $15.00 (Pre-registration is recommended). A reception will follow.
Anthony Kartsonas and Neal Vogel, both of Chicago, have consulted on major interior restoration projects in the Midwest and specialize in murals, wall treatments, woodwork and stained glass. They will speak about their process of investigation and assessment of historic interior spaces and feature some of their previous projects.
Fairlawn has been awarded a $5000 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation to help fund a report that will guide the restoration of Martin's office, the hallway outside of the office and the conservatory on the first floor. The two rooms and the hallway were not restored during the major restoration of the building during the 1990's and are currently shown to the guests during guided tours. The poor condition of these rooms is striking compared to the beautifully restored portions of the home.
The grant must be matched with funds raised by the organization. Some of the money for the portion pertaining to the office restoration will be donated from a fund created by the Fairlawn Auxiliary specifically intended for the restoration of the office. The remaining funds will be raised by the organization through events and private donations.Location:906 East 2nd Street, Superior, WI 54880Contact Information:(715) 394-5712Set a Reminder:
