ENBRIDGE and the Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse, Inc. (CASDA), are excited to announce Behind the Mask, a New Year's Eve masquerade gala supporting services to victims and survivors of violence in Superior and the Northland. Tickets are $50/person in advance, and $60 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at Barker's Island Inn or online at http://www.casda.org/event/nye2015/.
Behind the Mask takes place at Barker's Island Inn Thursday, December 31st, from 7 p.m. - 1 a.m. The gala will feature live music from the Twin Ports-based Showtime Band, fronted by a passionate advocate for CASDA who herself is a survivor of domestic violence. Other features include: a silent auction, signature drink created by Vikre Distillery, hors d'oeuvres throughout the evening, a wine toss, mask contest, balloon drop, and champagne toast at midnight! Formal, masquerade attire is strongly encouraged, but not required. Guests can bring their own mask - or acquire one at the event. Reserve a room at Barker's for a special event rate of $59, which includes breakfast in the restaurant on New Year's Day.
One in four Wisconsin women – or 714,000 – will be beaten, raped, or stalked by a current or former intimate partner at some point in her lifetime. This is twice the number of women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Last year, in Douglas County alone, law enforcement averaged between one and two domestic violence calls per day. Imagine how many more victims suffer in silence - "behind the mask."
Since 1988, CASDA has provided services to individuals hurt by domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse while advocating for a community effort to end violence. Our emergency shelter provided a secure refuge for 102 women and 86 children in 2014; our advocacy services reached 442 adults and children; and we answered 2,074 phone calls on our 24-hour help line. Our agency serves clients from Douglas, Ashland and Bayfield Counties, as well as from the greater Twin Ports area.
CASDA relies on the generosity of our community to continue to provide our services, and our New Year’s Eve party is our most important and festive fundraiser of the year. With the number of adult and child victims remaining steady, the need for CASDA’s programming persists.
