The City of Superior Environmental Services Division of Public Works is looking for individuals and families to help pick up trash along Barker’s Island on Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The ''Beach Sweep'' is a one-day volunteer event focusing on keeping our shorelines clean.''Barker’s Island is truly a gem,'' said Amber Westerbur, event coordinator. ''We want to keep it clean and we need the public’s help to do it.''
Volunteers are asked to arrive at the Barker’s Island Pavilion at 9:00 am dressed for the weather. Teams will then set out to collect and categorize the litter found along the Island’s shoreline and beaches. Garbage bags and gloves will be provided.
As a thank you, there will be a free picnic lunch at the Barker’s Island Pavilion immediately following the cleanup.
