    Date: April 28, 2026
    Time: 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM CDT
    Event Description:

The Pruitt Center for Mindfulness and Well-Being at the University of Wisconsin-Superior will host University of California, Berkeley, professor of psychology Dacher Keltner for a free virtual presentation “Awe: Meeting the Crisis of our Times.”  Awe is the feeling we experience when we encounter vast mysteries we don’t understand.  We find awe in the eight wonders of life, from moral beauty to music to nature to spiritual epiphany.  A new science finds that a brief dose of awe benefits our brains, hearts, and immune systems, counters toxic selfishness and anxiety, and encourages greater sharing, creativity, and sense of common humanity.  Join Dacher Keltner to learn about the evolution and neurophysiology of awe, the mental and physical health benefits and practical approaches to bringing more awe into your daily life.  Dacher Keltner is a Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and director of the Berkeley Social Interaction Lab.  He is a leading scholar in the study of emotion, including a new project on awe around the globe, as well as power, class, and inequality.  Keltner also serves as the Faculty Director of the Berkeley Greater Good Science Center.  He has collaborated on projects at Facebook and Google and served as scientific consultant for the Pixar films Inside Out and Inside Out 2.  He is an outstanding speaker who has received several national research and teaching awards.  This event is presented by UW-Superior's Pruitt Center for Mindfulness and Well-Being and sponsored by the Student Behavioral Health Initiative, a Universities of Wisconsin priority to support student emotional health and well-being.  For more information and to register for this free virtual event, visit uwsuper.edu/Dacher-Keltner.
