When summer is in full swing and the sun is shining, nothing calls like the water.
Here in Douglas County, we have some of the most beautiful lakes and waterfalls for visitors to take full advantage of the water.
We have multiple self-serve display racks stocked with Wisconsin Department of Tourism publications, travel guides, brochures, and maps located near play areas, paved walking trails, and Barker's Island.
Find a full brochure of activities in the area, or try some of these ideas this summer:

Swimming Beaches
Once that water warms up, it’s time to hit the beach! Find several swimming beaches at local lakes, many with picnic areas and playgrounds. Barker’s Island Festival Park in Superior is a fun-filled option, or visit Anna Gene County Park in Oakland on Lyman Lake, or Bass Lake County Park and Long Lake County Park in Solon Springs. Beautiful Lake Minnesuing in Bennett is a beautiful 30-acre park with a swimming beach on the north side.
Boating
The city of Superior has four boat launches where you can get annual and daily permits (for more information on boat launches call the Parks & Rec hotline at (715) 395-7299.). Nearby, you can also put your boat in at any number of public boat launches, like Lake Minnesuing or Anna Gene County Park. Just inspect your watercraft for any and all plants or zebra mussels from other lakes to avoid the spread of invasive species.

Visit Beautiful Waterfalls
The waterfalls at Amnicon Falls State Park in South Range, Wisconsin were voted the best waterfalls in Wisconsin by Lake Superior Magazine, and the hiking trails to see it are just as breathtaking. If you’re looking for the state’s highest waterfalls, head to Pattison State Park in Superior, where the Big Manitou Falls is 165 feet tall. With nine miles of wooded hiking trails, plus camping and beach, it’s worth an entire day’s outing.

Canoeing
Grab those paddles and life vests for a calming day of canoeing. There are canoe landings at camping sites throughout the area, including Copper Range Campground, or through the public boat launches at Gordan Dam or Mooney Dam County Parks.
Fishing
Did you know that Park Creek Pond is an 11-acre children’s fishing area that is occasionally stocked for the kids to try their luckiest lures? Fishing is one of the state’s great pastimes and can be done at nearly every lake or river in the area. If you find yourself reeling them in at Gordon Dam County Park, don’t forget to take advantage of the Fish cleaning house.

Paddle Boarding and Kayaking
Kayaking is becoming more and more popular on our waters and offers a calm escape for one or two people. Head to Brule River State Forest for the ultimate in picturesque kayaking. Or, in Superior, North Shore SUP offers paddle-boarding and kayaking rentals, plus instructions, guided tours, sunset paddles, full moon paddles, and more. (Schedule online to ensure you get a reservation.)
We hope you enjoy all the water activities you can this summer, and thanks for visiting Superior and Douglas County, Wisconsin!
