Name: UW-Superior Season Of Song (Virtual)
    Date: December 15, 2020
    Time: 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM CST
    Event Description:
The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present its annual Season of Song concert virtually at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15.
“Throughout the semester, the UWS Singers and Chorale have been rehearsing and then video recording choral pieces to be used in this Season of Song concert,” said Michael Fuchs, director of coral activities. “We have recorded at both the Cathedral of Christ the King and Thorpe Langley Auditorium on the UWS campus.”
Under the direction Erin Aldridge, UWS professor of orchestra and violin and concertmaster of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Strings will be featured in four pieces. Each recording has been created in a virtual format, with individuals recording their part on their own and then those individual recordings are edited and combined into a comprehensive musical performance. Ian Deterling, UWS adjunct music professor, has helped with the recording and editing and much of this concert material.
Restrictions also impacted the UWS Chorale, which needed to explore new ways to put on the traditional holiday showcase of the music department.
“Due to COVID safety measures, the full UWS Chorale has not been able to rehearse or perform together this semester,” said Fuchs. “All of the video-recorded selections are of small choral groups. However, the chorale is putting together three virtual choir pieces so that all members can be included for the performance.”
Titled “Hope and Home” the performance will feature music that explores the themes of hopefulness and belonging as well as holiday favorites including “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “The First Noel,” “Carol of the Bells” and “Hanerot Halalu.”
“Although there is a lot of disappointment that we cannot present this holiday tradition in person this year, we are glad to be able to present our music in an online format,” said Fuchs. “Music keeps us connected to each other and reminds us that throughout these challenging times, there is beauty in the world, and we are not alone.”
