The Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival takes place every August, just off the shore from Barker’s Island in Superior, WI. Each year teams of 22 men and women gather to paddle their way to victory in this fast-paced race to the finish. The Dragon Boat is a long “canoe-like” boat with a signature dragon at the head of the boat. The event is held as a fundraiser to support various charities and brings out the competative nature for the paddlers in more than the race alone. Some teams often "battle" to see
who can raise the most money for the charity too.
The Keyport Krew is a dedicated team of paddlers, from Keyport Liquor Outlet & Lounge, who take part in the festival each year. Season to season throughout the year the Keyport Krew work very hard and find new and inventive ways to raise money for their cause. This is why they hold the position of Top Fundraising Team and five of the top ten Highest Individual
Fundraisers reign from the Keyport Krew. The fierce but friendly competition between the Keyport Krew and Jack’s Thirsty Dragons keeps them on their toes as well. In 2009 the Keyport Krew came out on top, raising over $22,000 with the Thirsty Dragons not too far behind.
The 2010 Festival is drawing near and the Keyport Krew is stepping up the pace in their fundraising efforts. They recently held a BBQ & silent auction and a golf tournament. On August 20th and 21st they will make one more big fundraising push with a two-day outdoor live music event in the parking lot of Keyport at 1900 Belknap Street.
