Exploring the Northland – The Annual PBS High School Art and Essay Contest
This program honors winners and finalists in WDSE-TV Channel 8's 12th annual high school essay, art and photography contest. Winning essays will be read at the closing reception on Feb. 14, scholarships will be awarded. More than 100 works of photography and art will be on exhibit in the Kruk Gallery on the UW
Superior Campus.
Closing reception: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, in Kruk Gallery and Manion Theater
Clay Country: Snout of the Wolf ~ Exhibit, Gallery Talk and Reception 2/8/2010 - 4/3/2010
The North End Arts Gallery in Superior is proud to sponsor its newest exhibit--Clay Country: Snout of the Wolf .
Curator James Grittner has chosen artists whose works reflect the excellence and spectrum of clay styles in the region surrounding the headwaters of Lake Superior, sometimes referred to as the “Snout of the Wolf”. Clay Country will be on display from February 8 through April 3, 2010.
Among the artists in the show are: James Grittner, Bob Briscoe, Dick Cooter, Richard Gruchalla and Carrin Rosetti, Dave Lynas, Jan Andler, Sara Haugen, Sharon Moen, Broc Allen, Dave Yungner, Dan Edmunds, Bob and Cheryl Husby, James Klueg, Karin
Kraemer, Shayne Upthegrove, Barb Stanley, Marty Pearson, Ann Sterbenz-Duus, Sharon Moen, Martye Allen, and Tonya Borgeson.
On Saturday, February 27, a Gallery Talk with Jim Grittner will be held at 5:00 PM. Grittner, a long-time supporter of ceramic art in America and a great educator, has advanced the arts with his commitment
to clay and his community. He has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Superior for 47 years, instilling a love of art and living the life of a potter in many artists. Following the Gallery Talk, an Artist Reception will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Exhibit, Gallery Talk and Artist Reception are free and open to everyone!
The North End Arts Gallery, located in the historic Trade and Commerce Marketplace, 1323 Broadway, Superior, WI, is open Wednesdays through Saturdays 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM or by appointment.
